Wheel support for Ridge Racer Unbounded
I am planning to buy Ridge Racer Unbounded; I loved its trailer and the gameplay which is why I am interested in this game. This game is basically developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I think that the controllers like the driver’s wheel that is dedicately designed for PC won’t be supported by this game. I play most of the racing games using the steering wheel controller, so has anyone who played this game can tell me if this game can be played using steering wheel controller? Also, how many cameras does this game have, does it have the driver’s seat camera?

Re: Wheel support for Ridge Racer Unbounded
Many gamers who played this game complained of this game having bad control support. This game is basically developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so there is no option for playing the game using the steering wheel controller. Many gamers also complained about this missing feature but the developers haven’t replied yet. I hope developers bring out a patch for this as playing this game using steering wheel controller will be a new experience.

The game has one of the bad controls in PC version. If you are planning to play this game in PC, let me tell you developers haven’t provided any options to configure the keys according to PC keyboard. In its option, you will get a set of key configurations which you can change and try which suits you the best. You cannot edit the presets for key configurations. In PC version, a layout of which key from Xbox 360 controller corresponds to which key on keyboard is given. This layout consists combination of all sets in the game.

Another problem Ridge Racer Unbounded’s PC version faces is the instructions in the game that teaches the player basic controls in the game. The instructions too refer the Xbox 360 controls which becomes hectic if you don’t remember the keys in the layout. I have made a print out of the layout which I use to see the key shown in instruction corresponds to which key on my computer’s keyboard. Developers should do something about this and should devise a patch or add-on which will add the PC keyboard compatibility to the game.

Pc version of Ridge Racer Unbounded supports Xbox 360 control for PC. I have one which can be connected in USB port and I use it to play the game.

The game doesn’t have driver’s seat view camera. There are only two cameras in Ridge Racer Unbounded, one is the default camera which lets you see the backside of the car from a small height and another is a chase camera which is activated when some scene of importance takes place. You cannot modify the angle or distance of these cameras. The distance between camera and the car changes only when you use the nitrous boost. Default camera will slide back some distance for time period when you are using nitro boost. This is done to accommodate the fast arriving scenes in the game.

Chase camera used in the game is activated automatically only when you destroy your opponent’s car or crash a structure. It is used to add a cinematic effect to the game.

Did anyone notice the size of game for PC? It’s just 1.5 GB. The textures used in the game are of very low resolution. Developers have worked hard to get high quality graphics in the game using these low resolution textures. The main disadvantage of using these low resolution textures is to optimize the size of the game. If a camera which provides close view of car is provided, then the low resolution of the game will be easily noticed due to pixilation of textures. To avoid this, no other camera is provided.

This game focuses on destruction, if driver’s seat view would have been provided, then player won’t get to see the destruction completely. This would be a waste of efforts for developers if the player can be able to see the destruction. I miss the driver view camera too, but this game isn’t made for it.
